The Cat in the Hat celebrates his 50th Birthday this year and what better way to honor the character and the world of Dr. Seuss than by seeing the Bucks County Playhouse production of Seussical the Musical when it returns to the Bucks County Playhouse stage. The musical played to enthusiastic audiences during the 2006 Season and returns for two weekends beginning Friday, April 13 and continuing through Sunday, April 22, 2007.

“After all of those years being stuck on a page, did you ever imagine you’d see me on stage?” So asks the mischievous Cat in the Hat to begin the fantastical musical extravaganza that is Seussical. Seussical weaves together many of Dr. Seuss’ most famous stories and characters in unexpected ways with a score by the Tony Award winning team of Lynn Ahrens and Stephen Flaherty. In true Seuss fashion, Seussical mixes a message in with all the fantabulous silliness. The musical embraces the joys of imagination along with celebrating those who dare to “color outside the lines”

Horton the Elephant is the soft-spoken hero in a magical world populated with many favorite Seuss characters — Yertle the Turtle, Gertrude McFuzz, Mayzie La Bird, the Cat in the Hat, the Grinch and his tiny Whos that Horton is determined to protect. Despite taunting, teasing and threats of imprisonment, Horton stubbornly sticks to what’s right. Dr. Seuss’ wonderful words transform into witty lyrics in this uplifting musical that insists, “A person’s a person no matter how small!”

In the cast of Seussical the Musical are several Playhouse favorites. Louis Palena reprises the role of The Cat in the Hat, a role he first played in last season’s production of Seussical. Audiences know Louis from many roles over the years most notably the Emcee in Cabaret, Bobby Child in Crazy for You and Billy Lawlor in 42nd Street.

The Bucks County Playhouse Box Office is now fully ONLINE. A special internet discount is available for Seussical the Musical for online purchases. Tickets are $18.00 each ($15.00 plus a $3.00 convenience fee) and this special is available to online purchasers only. The Bucks County Playhouse production of Seussical the Musical runs from Friday, April 13 through Sunday, April 22, 2007.
