BYE BYE BIRDIE SET FOR THREE WEEK RUN AT THE BUCKS COUNTY PLAYHOUSE BEGINNING WEDNESDAY, MAY 2, 2007

Revisit the 1950s and take a trip to Sweet Apple, Ohio when the Bucks County Playhouse stages a three week run of the musical, Bye Bye Birdie. Set to begin on Wednesday, May 2, the musical comedy continues through Sunday, May 20, 2007.

It’s the late 1950s and teenagers from across the United States are going crazy for the handsome rock star, Conrad Birdie. Just days away from enlisting in the Army, Conrad’s manager, Albert Peterson, has staked his financial future on Conrad’s success by launching a contest. The prize - one last all-American goodbye kiss from Conrad to a lucky teenage girl on television’s “The Ed Sullivan Show”. Contest winner Kim MacAfee and the rest of the citizens of Sweet Apple, Ohio have their lives turned upside-down by Conrad’s arrival. Meanwhile, Albert juggles publicity pressures, his marriage-minded sweetheart Rosie, and a meddling mother!

The musical score of Bye Bye Birdie was written by the team of Charles Strouse and Lee Adams and contains several songs that became standards far outside the boundaries of American musical theatre. Such songs as “Put On A Happy Face”, “A Lot of Livin’ to Do” and “Kids” all became well known to audiences many of whom never had the thrill of seeing the show performed live on stage

In the role of Albert Peterson is Bucks County Playhouse favorite, Jim Lynch. First appearing on the stage during the 2000 season, Jim has played such leading roles as Bill Snibson in Me and My Girl, Billy Flynn in Chicago, Professor Harold Hill in The Music Man, Joe Flynn in Damn Yankees, Georges in La Cage aux Folles and Fred Gaily in Miracle on 34th Street. Bye Bye Birdie will be directed and choreographed by Playhouse Artistic Director, Stephen Casey. Now in his 10th season as Artistic Director, Stephen has directed and choreographed some of the Playhouse's most critically acclaimed productions, including Chicago, Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat and A Chorus Line, to name a few.
