PERENNIAL FAVORITE, THE MUSIC MAN RETURNS TO THE BUCKS COUNTY PLAYHOUSE BEGINNING AUGUST 9, 2006

“There’s gonna be trouble” in New Hope, Pennsylvania when one of the most beloved musicals in American theatre, The Music Man returns to the Bucks County Playhouse. The Music Man is scheduled for a two week run beginning Wednesday, August 9 and continuing through Sunday, August 20, 2006.

With book, music and lyrics by Meredith Willson, The Music Man tells the story of huckster Harold Hill who arrives in the town of River City, Iowa with one purpose, to hoodwink the townspeople into thinking their children can form a marching band. He tries to swindle the citizens by suggesting they buy instruments and uniforms, knowing he has no intentions of providing them. Harold Hill, however, gets more than he bargained for when he meets the people of River City and falls for Marian Paroo, the town librarian.

Reprising the role of Harold Hill is Jim Lynch. Jim previously played Harold Hill in our production of The Music Man back in 2002. Since then Playhouse audiences have seen him in a variety of roles such as Billy Flynn in Chicago, Cliff Bradshaw in Cabaret, Will Rogers in The Will Rogers Follies and Joe Hardy in Damn Yankees to name a few. Appearing opposite Jim Lynch as Marian Paroo is Playhouse favorite, Tressa McCallister. Tressa had a remarkable season with Bucks last year when she played Maria in The Sound of Music, Eliza in My Fair Lady, Betty Blake in The Will Rogers Follies and Mary Bailey in It’s A Wonderful Life. Also included in the cast is Playhouse regular Penny Larsen who reprises the role of the Widow Paroo. Having just returned from the national tour of The Full Monty, Playhouse audiences have seen Penny as Golde in Fiddler on the Roof with Eddie Mekka and Aunt Eller in Oklahoma! The Music Man is directed and choreographed by Stephen Casey. Casey has served as Artistic Director for the Playhouse for 10 years and has directed and choreographed many of our hits of the past few seasons including Damn Yankees and Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat. The cast also features over 20 local children.

The Bucks County Playhouse production of The Music Man runs from Wednesday, August 9 thru Sunday, August 20, 2006. Performances are Wednesday and Thursday at 2 PM and 8 PM, Friday at 8 PM, Saturday at 4 PM and 8 PM and Sunday at 2 PM. Ticket prices are $22 or $24.
