LA CAGE AUX FOLLES SET AS NEXT PRODUCTION AT THE BUCKS COUNTY PLAYHOUSE BEGINNING WEDNESDAY, OCTOBER 4, 2006
Return to glitzy and glamorous St. Tropez when one of musical theatre's most popular shows, La Cage aux Folles, comes to the Bucks County Playhouse for a two week run. Playing from Wednesday, October 4 through Sunday, October 15, 2006, La Cage aux Folles has become an audience favorite that always promises big laughs and thought provoking moments.
The story of La Cage aux Folles centers on two middle-aged lovers, Albin and Georges who have been together for over 20 years. Albin is known on stage as Zaza, the infamous drag queen. Georges and Albin's domestic peace is shattered when Georges' son, Jean-Michel, the product of a youthful indiscretion, announces that he plans to wed the daughter of a local morals crusader. In order to look like a "normal" mother and father of Jean-Michel, Albin poses as Georges' wife and the fun begins.
With book by Harvey Fierstein, the Jerry Herman musical score of La Cage aux Folles contains such notables as "The Best of Times", "With You on My Arm", "La Cage aux Folles" and the both poignant and moving "I Am What I Am".
The cast of La Cage aux Folles features Bucks County resident, Michael Moeller in the lead as Albin/Zaza. Playhouse audiences have seen Michael as Toddy in Victor/Victoria and as Captain Von Trapp in last season's production of The Sound of Music. Opposite Michael in the role of Georges is Playhouse veteran, Jim Lynch. Previously, Playhouse audiences saw Jim as Billy Flynn in Chicago, Cliff Bradshaw in Cabaret, Will Rogers in The Will Rogers Follies, Joe Hardy in Damn Yankees and as Harold Hill in this season's production of The Music Man. This production will be directed and choreographed by Playhouse Artistic Director, Stephen Casey who has done the same for past productions of Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, Anything Goes and Footloose.
The Bucks County Playhouse production of La Cage aux Folles runs from Wednesday, October 4 thru Sunday, October 15, 2006. Performances are Wednesday and Thursday at 2 PM and 8 PM, Friday at 8 PM, Saturday at 4 PM and 8 PM and Sunday at 2 PM. Ticket prices range from $22.00 to $24.00. A "Day of Show" discount is available to students ages 21 and under and all active military. Discounts are available day of only with valid identification.
