INTO THE WOODS AT THE BUCKS COUNTY PLAYHOUSE FOR TWO WEEKS BEGINNING WEDNESDAY, MAY 24, 2006
The Stephen Sondheim musical, Into the Woods is set as the next show in the Bucks County Playhouse 2006 Season. Beginning on Wednesday, May 24, the musical continues for two weeks through Sunday, June 4, 2006.
Blending various familiar fairy tales, Into the Woods brings together the timeless characters of Cinderella and her Prince, Jack the Giant Killer, Little Red Ridinghood and the Wolf, Rapunzel, Snow White and Sleeping Beauty. The musical introduces a Baker and his wife who are on a quest to reverse a spell put on them by an evil Witch. As the musical progresses, the characters learn that “happily ever after” isn’t always what it seems.
Heading the cast of Into the Woods are several Playhouse veterans well known to audiences. Tressa McCallister will portray Cinderella. Tressa had a remarkable season with Bucks last year when she played Maria in The Sound of Music, Eliza in My Fair Lady, Betty Blake in The Will Rogers Follies and Mary Bailey in It’s A Wonderful Life. Penny Larsen returns to the Playhouse stage as Jack’s Mother having just completed a national tour of The Full Monty. Playhouse audiences have seen Penny as Golde in Fiddler on the Roof, Aunt Eller in Oklahoma! and Mrs. Paroo in The Music Man to name just a few. Jill Palena will play Little Red Ridinghood. Jill has performed at the Playhouse for the past 5 years playing a variety of roles including the Narrator in Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat and Janet in The Rocky Horror Show. This production of Into the Woods will be directed by Michael Licata. Michael has directed many productions for the Playhouse over the past seven years. Last season he directed Gypsy starring Joyce DeWitt and the season closer, It’s A Wonderful Life.
The Bucks County Playhouse production of Into The Woods runs from Wednesday, May 24 thru Sunday, June 4, 2006. Performances are Wednesday at 2 PM and 8 PM, Thursday and Friday at 8 PM, Saturday at 4 PM and 8 PM and Sunday at 2 PM. An additional matinee is scheduled for Thursday, June 1, 2006 at 2 PM. Ticket prices range from $22.00 to $24.00. A “Day of Show” discount is available to students ages 21 and under and all active military. Discounts are available day of only with valid identification.
