ANOTHER BUCKS COUNTY PLAYHOUSE DEBUT IS SET WHEN HOT MIKADO BEGINS SEPTEMBER 20, 2006
Revisit the 1940s when the Bucks County Playhouse presents Hot Mikado. Set for a two week run, Hot Mikado begins on Wednesday, September 20 and continues through Sunday, October 1, 2006.
Hot Mikado is just what it sounds like -- a swinging, jazzed-up version of the original “Mikado,” the 19th-century operetta by Sir William Gilbert and Sir Arthur Sullivan that was their greatest hit and the biggest musical comedy sensation of the Victorian era. East meets West head-on in this hilarious 1940s-style musical. With music transmuted into blues, Cab Calloway swing, hot gospel, scorching torch songs and ‘Three Little Maids’ turned into an Andrew Sisters’ show-stopper, this zoot-suited, tap-dancing colorful show is certain to provide the ideal evening out for the whole family.
The cast of Hot Mikado features several Playhouse favorites audiences have seen throughout the 2006 season. Louis Palena will play the Mikado. Audiences have seen Louis in a variety of roles over his past nine years with the Playhouse. Louis has starred as the Emcee in Cabaret, Billy Flynn in 42nd Street, The Cat in the Hat in Seussical, Sr. Mary Amnesia in Nunsense...A-Men! and Clam in On The Town to name just a few. This season, Louis directed and choreographed Elton John and Tim Rice’s Aida. Jim Lynch continues the season as Ko Ko in Hot Mikado. Jim just completed a run of The Full Monty where he played Harold Nichols and was seen earlier this season as Professor Harold Hill in The Music Man. Hot Mikado is directed and choreographed by Playhouse Artistic Director, Stephen Casey. Now in his tenth season with the Playhouse, Casey has directed and choreographed past productions of 42nd Street, Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat and the critically acclaimed 2002 production of Chicago.
The Bucks County Playhouse production of Hot Mikado runs from Wednesday, September 20 thru Sunday, October 1, 2006. Performances are Wednesday and Thursday at 2 PM and 8 PM, Friday at 8 PM, Saturday at 4 PM and 8 PM and Sunday at 2 PM. Ticket prices are $22 or $24.
